Download (Windows-Setup)
DVDChecker is a program that uses the exportfile of DVD Profiler to create a list of the DVDs and BluRays in your collection for use on a smartphone that can run android apps. The app DVDChecker for the smartphone can be downloaded at http://ws.simatexvs.de/filemanager/Download/DVDChecker.apk. The QR-Code for this app is shown on the form of DVDChecker to make handling easier.
DVDChecker requires DVD Profiler to be installed. It is useless and won't work if this program is missing.
When you install DVDChecker you get a desktoplink that starts DVDChecker so that it runs DVD Profiler automatically. So you can take this link as replacement for the DVD Profiler link you may already have.
In DVD Profiler you can create an exportfile by choosing "export profiledatabase" from the filemenu and then select "all profiles". For DVDChecker there is no need to export optional data since DVDChecker ignores it.
Now when DVD Profiler is closed then DVDChecker will look, if there is a new exportfile of DVD Profiler. It remembers the last time it uploaded a file to the webservice, so if the exportfile is newer than that timestamp it will be considered a new one. If there happens to be one, then DVDChecker parses this file, creates a very much smaller file with some information of the collection and uploads it to a webservice. To connect the app on the android smartphone with this upload, you just have to scan the QRCode in the top left corner of the DVDChecker window. You only have to do this once as long as DVDChecker is installed.
When you run the app DVDChecker on your smartphone and there is an internetconnection possible, then DVDChecker will look, if there is data on the webservice and if it is, then it will download it and present the user with a scrollable list of all of his dvds that are known to DVD Profiler.
This is the PC-side of this application. On the smartphone you now have a companion that knows the DVDs you own. DVDChecker on the android looks like this:
|
Here you can see the dvds in your collection. This is just a simple list, no detailview available. Now when you see a dvd and want to know if you have it already in your collection you can do three things with this program: - scroll through the list - search for the title - scan the barcode scrolling through the list can be a timeconsuming operation. The list is alphabetically sorted, but if you have more than a few dvds, you will have to scroll a long time to find what you are looking for. The better way is to input the name or part of the name in the editfield and let DVDChecker look for you. It will shrink the list to only show the matches to the given text. The easiest way of checking is by looking at the barcode. DVDChecker uses the app Barcode Scanner to do this. If it is not installed then DVDChecker will lead you to the android market to download it. If Barcode Scanner is installed then a touch of the barcode icon in DVDChecker opens the scanner. As soon as the scanner recognises a barcode it will return this value to DVDChecker and he will try to find this code in the list. If it is found you get the found items. If it is not found then you will be presented with the information that this is the case and (if available) with a picture of the movie that you scanned. |
Thats it. DVDChecker is really only a checker for dvds, not a replacement for the (hopefully) upcoming android app of DVD Profiler. If you have suggestions, bugreports or featurerequests just mail me at Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist gegen Spam-Bots geschützt.
